All our wines are from the Languedoc region in southern France
. We started out making wines in 1997. Our objective is to cultivate
our vineyards with absolute respect for the environment so that
our wines may express as naturally as possible their origin. We
seek to preserve our local eco systems in as natural as state as
possible, researching ways of allowing our vines to establish natural
defences against their different predators. We feed our vines compost,
made on each of our farms according to the Biodynamic principles,
to ensure our soil is nurtured with live matter. The centuries
of grape cultivation in this area has inspired us to believe that
we can grow the fruit to make the great wines of today.
Chateau Combebelle is a 20 hectare property
in the St Chinian appellation where we grow Syrah & Grenache
in a unique site at 280m above sea level on deep red clay soil.
Zachys:
“Combebelle is a known as the eagles
nest as it sits on top of the Languedoc with its 360 degree views
overlooking the sea and mountains. A very distinct micro climate
and deep red clay soil surrounded by limestone & chalk hillsides
means that only wines of distinct character can be made here.”
A completely natural process without any chemicals
has produced a wine with subtle strong flavours which will be especially
good with all barbecued meats. This is a wine who want to discover the
Southern French sun in bottle, a totally unique experience."
Wine Spectator December
2003:
"87. This has a firm fruity aroma, and
flavours of red cherry, plum and spice. A broad textured full bodied red
blend that finishes with pepper and smoke notes. Drink now."
The Wine Advocate E June 2003
Robert M Parker Jr., GREAT VALUES FOR UNDER $20,
Chateau de Combebelle 2000 St Chinian Grenache/syrah 90 points. "An
outstanding example from the somewhat forgotten St Chinian appellation, this
2000 grenache/syrahs inky/ruby/purple colour is accompanied by a big sweet
nose of espresso roast, chocolate, black cherries and currants. Medium bodied,
with moderate tannin, good density and a long, persistent finish, it will
improve over the next several years, and drink well for 5-6."
